About Roger Bray

A Self-Published Author’s Journey Into Crime Fiction

Writing has always been a passion of mine, a way to bring characters to life and step into their world. Through every story, I find myself living their fears, their decisions, and the consequences that follow.

My writing process is driven by one constant question: what would they do? Every character is shaped by their choices, and every story is about seeing those choices play out. I don’t like leaving characters unfinished, they deserve an ending, no matter where the story leads.

A Life That Shapes the Stories

My stories are influenced by a lifetime of experience. I’ve served in the Navy, worked as a police officer, and faced situations that most people only encounter in fiction.
These experiences shaped how I see the world and how I write about it.

In my crime fiction and thriller novels, I explore what happens when ordinary people are placed in extraordinary situations. The line between right and wrong isn’t always clear, and that’s where the most compelling stories begin.

The Moment Everything Changed

During my time in the police force, I was medically retired after sustaining a serious injury while protecting a woman in a domestic violence situation.

That period brought significant challenges, including depression and uncertainty about what came next. But it also became a turning point.

I returned to study, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, not for a career, but for personal growth. It was during this time that I rediscovered my passion for writing.

Current work

From Experience to Storytelling

Today, I write crime novels, mystery stories, and suspense-driven fiction that explore human behaviour, decision-making, and the consequences of actions.

With three books published and more on the way, my focus remains the same, to create stories that keep readers thinking long after the final page.

If my books can entertain, challenge, or resonate with readers in any way, then I’ve achieved what I set out to do.

A Few Personal Notes

I’m happily married with three grown children, along with a granddaughter and grandson. My wife of over 30 years and I share our home with two cats, one adorably stubborn, and one who seems to have adopted us.
